While many dither ...

some stand against encroaching apostasy. Thank God for men like these two earnest Christ-followers.

Episcopal diocese leaders insist that property belongs to the diocese, while the churches rest on Virginia court rulings indicating it belongs to churches—hinting at the legal and financial battles the theological rift will inspire.

The UMC and UCC are facing the same issue over congregational autonomy. Thankfully owns its own building, parsonage and cemetery; the thought of walking away from those physical things probably would have stopped us from leaving our denomination, as it has stopped the Lansing United Methodists to our south.

Property is a real issue in these confrontations. I believe the World article is slightly out of date with respect to the two Virginia congregations. I read the other day that the members of one of them have since voted to leave their property behind and start anew. Millions of dollars, and yet a small price to pay. May I have the grace to make a similarly gutsy decision if it came to it.

Sorry about the multiposting.

Not being a member of a church that owned property until I reached my 40s, I am still figuring all this stuff out, but I can imagine the thought of walking away from one's family graves would be daunting. And that is what some of them face if they leave their denomination: Losing their cemeteries.
